KOLKATA: A woman who had given birth to a girl child died after falling down inside the hospital on Thursday morning. The family members of the victim have alleged negligence on the part of Chittaranjan Seva Sadan hospital in Bhowanipore stating that nobody turned up to help the woman after she fell down.
According to the sources, the victim, Sharmistha Basu Bhattacharjee was admitted to the hospital with labour pain on October 22.
The operation was conducted one day after she was admitted, giving birth to a girl child.
However, the stitching after delivery suffered damage and there was bleeding. As a result, another surgery was conducted a few days ago.
Her family members said the woman had gone to the bathroom in the morning and while returning to her bed she slipped and fell on the floor.
"She had called for help but there was not any doctor or nurse or attendant present to respond to her call. The ayah, who was responsible for looking after her, was nowhere in sight," one of her family members alleged adding that the woman was left struggling for at least half an hour on the floor.
A senior official of the hospital said an inquiry committee has been formed to probe the negligence.
