Kolkata: An incident of alleged acid attack on a woman took place at Kandi in Murshidabad on Sunday late night. Police said the victim was admitted to Kandi Sub-divisional Hospital with burn injuries on her hands.
A police officer said the victim's mother lodged a complaint with Kandi police station against four of her neighbours. Police have initiated a probe in this connection and also taken the statement of the victim.
Though the police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident, they suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the crime.
The complainant told the police that she had an altercation with one of their neighbours a few days ago. Since then they used to disturb them a lot and even used to pass lewd comments. They were in a helpless situation as the she resides alone in the house with her daughter.
Their neighbours had even allegedly beaten her up on Sunday morning following an altercation. The situation turned worse at night when the altercation broke out once again.
The complainant told the police that they threw a bottle containing acid on her daughter.
It missed her face and fell on her hand.
She received severe injuries on her hand. The neighbours fled the spot, realising that locals would come as the victim was crying for help.
Locals took the victim to a hospital where she was provided with necessary treatment.
It may be mentioned that the state police have taken several steps to check incidents of acid attacks.
