Kolkata: A man has been allegedly arrested for murder by officers of Charu Market police station here on Thursday night. The accused, identified as Bumba Dey, has confessed to the crime. He was produced before the Alipore Court and remanded to police custody till March 30.
After Dey's arrest from Tollygunj Circular Road, he told the police that he roughed up Sardar under the influence of alcohol.
According to the police, on Tuesday night, Somnath Sardar, 35, was found lying unconsciously inside an abandoned warehouse located on Dr Deodhar Rahman Road in Charu Market area. He was immediately rushed to M R Bangur Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
During the preliminary probe, officers came to know that Dey had badly beaten up Sardar. While questioning local residents, some children said on Tuesday night Dey had forcefully taken them to the warehouse. Dey saw Sardar sleeping at the warehouse and allegedly started beating him. Scared by the incident, the children ran from the place.
After the autopsy examination, the surgeon said marks of deep injury could be seen on Sardar's body. Due to the
injuries, excessive internal bleeding occurred, which led to Sardar's death.
