Kolkata: A woman allegedly murdered her eight-year-old son and tried to commit suicide by jumping off from the roof of a three-storey building in the M C Garden area in Dum Dum.
According to locals, the woman identified as Poulomi Sen is the daughter of Malabika Sen, former CPI(M) councillor of South Dum Dum Municipality. Malabika was also attacked by her daughter when she tried to stop her while killing
her grandson.
Locals informed that on Sunday evening, some of their neighbours heard a noise of something falling.
When some of the locals went to check, they sawsaw Poulomi was lying on the ground of a vacant plot beside their house. A few of the neighbours rushed her to R G Kar Hospital while others went to her house to inform Malabika.
But locals were stunned to see Malabika sitting next her grandson's body inside their rented flat on the third floor of the house. When asked, Malabika told neighbours her daughter Polomi had killed her son Athan Abram and tried to kill her as
she tried resist.
Sources informed that Malabika sustained multiple stab injuries. She was then admitted to a private hospital in Barasat where Poulomi was later shifted on
Sunday night.
She said when Poulomi was strangulating Abram, she tried to stop her but failed. Police have found injury marks on Poulomi's wrist and abdomen.
It is suspected that she tried to commit suicide after killing her son. But as her mother appeared in the scene she also tried to kill her.
Locals claimed that Poulomi was married to a person nine years ago and got divorced around three years ago.
Since then she used to live with Malabika along with her son. As Poulomi used to lead a luxurious life, she used to spend a huge amount for the same. In order to arrange money to maintain her extravagant lifestyle, she had taken huge loans from several people.
Sources informed that recently Malabika had asked for loans from several people including some councillors of South Dum Dum Municipality.
Malabika's son resides outside India, who used to send money for monthly expenses. As Poulomi was addicted to alcohol, the money was not enough. She was suffering from depression as well for quite a long time.
Police sources informed that Poulomi admitted to have killed her son and tried to commit suicide. As her mother came to save Abram, she stabbed her.
Police are officially confirming the fact. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone II of Barrackpore Police Ananda Roy said: "Our probe is on. Nothing can be said as the investigation is at an early stage."
