Kolkata: New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) introduced a state-of-the-art Mechanical Road Sweeping machine in New Town for fast and the best possible cleaning of roads on Monday.
The modern machine has been procured to keep pace with the clean and Green City. New Town has already bagged the Green City tag from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked all the civic bodies to keep the areas under their jurisdiction clean and sweeping of roads should be done regularly.
The newly introduced mechanical road sweeping machine works at a very fast pace. It has the ability to clean the footpaths also keeping the vehicle on the road by using mechanical arm along with the capacity to clean the edges of roads which are difficult to reach and the kerbstones as well. By using water jets, it can clean mud. The modern equipment can clean the roadside sculptures, street furniture, displays etc. by using the elevated platform (dynamic in nature) and water jets.
During the past few years, the NKDA has deployed mechanical street sweepers in New Town for fast and comprehensive cleaning.
A total of five Mechanical Road Sweepers fitted with GPS trackers are functional in New Town.
Not only the roads, the NKDA has taken steps to water and clean the roadside plants regularly. Sewer water is recycled and then used to water them.
Measures have also been taken to increase the green cover of New Town and residents of multi-storeyed apartments are encouraged to grow plants and the successful growers are rewarded too.
