Kolkata: To train officials to evacuate passengers during emergencies, Kolkata Metro Railway conducted an evacuation mock drill on Sunday.
The drill was conducted in a tunnel on the down line between Rabindra Sarobar and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar metro station.
The officials were demonstrated on how to evacuate passengers during emergencies in minimum possible time especially when a train is stranded in the tunnel due to no-motoring or any other reason.
The evacuation mock drill comes a month after 66-year-old Sajal Kanjilal was killed after his hand got stuck in a Metro door.
The incident took place while he was trying to board a Kavi Subhash-bound Metro from the Park Street station.
In a bid to avoid such accidents, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) had instructed the Kolkata Metro Railway authorities to install convex mirrors at the driving motorman's end at both platforms in all stations.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Metro Railway has also decided to run special pre-Puja services on Saturdays and Sundays, starting from August 31.
At present, 236 trains run on Saturdays, while 124 trains run on Sundays.
There are 284 services including Up and Down trains between Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash stations.
The number of services between Dum Dum and Noapara has been increased to 107 from 104.
