Mock drill at Kolkata Airport to improve safety preparedness

Kolkata: A full-scale mock-up exercise was conducted on Saturday at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata as part of its efforts to improve safety preparedness at the airport.

"The mock drill was conducted by creating a situation akin to a plane accident. The entire operation lasted for about an hour. The drill was successfully conducted without causing any inconvenience to the airport operations," a spokesperson of NSCBI Airport said.

The full-scale emergency drill is an exercise to check the readiness of the airport on real-time situations.

"We are committed to the safety and well-being of the passengers and consistently strive to incorporate and upgrade the best of world-class safety measures," the spokesperson added.

The drill was witnessed by Atul Dikshit, Airport Director, Kolkata; senior officials, representatives from CISF, and other stakeholders.

Recently, a mock bomb threat preparedness evacuation drill was also held at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport terminal to test co-ordination and response of all agencies in-keeping with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) requirement.

The airport was evacuated and thorough searches were carried out to locate a bag. As part of the exercise, the drill was successfully conducted without causing any inconvenience to airport operations.
