Kolkata: Unidentified miscreants attempted to decamp with money by breaking an ATM machine that is situated inside Suri Sub-divisional Hospital.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday and it came to the notice of the people on Wednesday morning.
The matter was informed to the police who have initiated a probe. After the preliminary investigation, a police officer said they are suspecting that there was more than one person behind the crime. The miscreants first damaged the CCTV cameras installed at the ATM counter and then continued damaging the ATM machine. The ATM counter is of a nationalised bank. The police also spoke to the officials of the nationalised bank.
But despite their attempt, they failed to take out the money from the machine. Finally, they attempted to take away the machine, but they failed in this attempt as well.
Locals and a doctor noticed it this morning when they went out to take a morning walk. The police spoke to the people who spotted it first and are suspecting that someone from the locality is behind the incident.
The police are also suspecting that this could be the first time when the miscreants have attempted to steal money from an ATM machine as they were unaware of the tactics. A police officer said steps have been taken to arrest other miscreants. Police have intensified the vigil to ensure that such incident do not take place anymore in the area again.
