Miscreants loot cash, valuables from businessman at gunpoint in Bhowanipore
Kolkata: Unidentified miscreants have looted valuables from the house of a businessman at gun point in Bhowanipore in South Kolkata in the wee hours on Thursday.
Police said it was around 3 am in the morning when four miscreants with their faces covered with black clothes entered the three-storeyed building by breaking the lock of the main gate.
They straightway went to the flat of the businessman, Mohan Gupta, housed on the top floor of the building. They continued pressing the door bell until Gupta opened the door.
Gupta opened the door considering that someone might have been in trouble and had come for some sort of help. But the miscreants entered the flat as soon as he opened the door and looted valuables at gun point.
Gupta, a camera trader, stay in the flat along with his wife and daughter. The miscreants took money, camera and other valuables including jewellery from the house of the businessman. They searched all the rooms to get more valuables. Later, they locked Gupta's wife and daughter in one room and continued searching other rooms to get something more.
Gupta's wife and daughter called up police from inside the locked room and sought their help. Police rushed to the spot but the miscreants had fled by then.
Later, senior officers from both Bhowanipore police station and city police's Detective Department went to the spot. They initiated a probe in this connection and spoke to Gupta and his family members.
Police have also collected video footages of all the surveillance cameras in the area and the investigating officers are going through them to identify the accused. A police officer suspect that someone known to Gupta or other members of his family is involved in the crime.
