Darjeeling: A three-year-old girl had a miraculous escape on Thursday when she fell in front of a herd of elephants. The animals quietly moved into the forest without causing any harming to the baby. The incident occurred on Thursday in the Jalpaiguri district.
Nitu Ghosh, a 36-year-old businessman, a resident of Neora-Mor, Lataguri, with his wife Titli Ghosh and three-year-old daughter Ahana Ghosh had visited Mahakal Temple deep in the jungles on Thursday morning.
After offering puja, while returning on a two-wheeler, they approached the access road to the Kalakhawa watchtower. Suddenly, three elephants came on their way, sending a shiver down Nitu's spine. In a state of panic, he lost his balance and all three riders fell on the road.
Nitu somehow managed to get up and tried to scurry to safety. In the process, he fell into a pothole and sprained his ankles. Titli, 29, managed to run for a few yards but she hurt her legs. However, the there-year-old baby fell right in front of the elephants. A few other people had gathered at the spot. All of them watched in despair at what seemed to be a sure death.
The elephants kicked the two-wheeler off the road but did not harm the girl. Instead they slowly passed her by into the forest. Local residents immediately took the family to a private nursing home in Jalpaiguri.
