Kolkata: A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by one of her relatives. The incident took place under Parnashree police station in Behala.
On the basis of a specific complaint lodged by the family members of the minor girl, police have arrested the accused. The victim's aunt has also been arrested by the investigators who helped the accused to carry out the crime.
According to police, the accused, who happens to be victim's uncle, used to torture her for more than a month.
The aunt used to take the victim girl to the accused. Both the accused have been remanded to police custody after being produced before a court in the city.
Police have booked the main accused under POCSO Act.
Due to the torture, the victim girl fell ill as a result of which her parents took her to a local doctor.
After some clinical tests, doctor confirmed that the minor was assaulted on repeated occasions.
The victim's parents told the police that for the past few days she was complaining of pain in her private part.
The child was traumatised after going through the ordeal.
The victim's family members on Thursday reported the matter to the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
According to the advice of the Chairperson of the Commission, the victim's parents lodged a police complaint.
After a brief interrogation, police have arrested both the uncle and aunt for their involvement in the incident.
According to the preliminary investigation, police said the main accused used to engage her aunt to bring away the child from her home to avoid any suspicion by the family members.
Police are yet to ascertain as to why the woman, who is a family member of the victim, had indulged in such an activity.
Police are not sure if she did it to seek revenge on the victim's family or there was any other reason behind the incident. They are interrogating the duo in
this connection.
