Kolkata: Locals beat up two mentally-challenged persons looking like vagabonds suspecting them to be thieves in Dakshindari area beside VIP Road at Lake Town.
Later, police rescued them and arrested two persons for beating them up.
According to sources, several locals park their cars under the Airport-bound ramp of Ultadanga flyover beside VIP Road.
For the past few months, several car owners could
not find there cars' batteries and fuel. But none was identified.
On Wednesday morning, some locals noticed two
persons walking aimlessly there and suspected them
to be thieves and informed others. Within minutes many gathered and started beating up the two.
Despite the duo begging for mercy, no one was bothered to hear them.
They were tied up to the median divider railing beside VIP Road and beaten up badly. Some threw burning material pieces at them which could be seen in a video footage recorded by someone present there.
Meanwhile, Lake Town police station was informed by an anonymous caller about the incident.
Cops immediately reached the spot and rescued the two injured persons and admitted them to a hospital.
According to police, the duo identified themselves as Babu Samanta and Sanjay Bhunia.
Later, the sleuths arrested two persons for allegedly beating up innocent people. Interestingly, none of the arrested are owners of the cars parked there.
The two arrested persons were booked under Sections 307 IPC (attempt to murder), 324 IPC (voluntarily
causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 342 IPC (wrongful confinement) and 506 IPC (criminal intimidation).
They will be produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's (ACJM) Court, Bidhannagar, on Thursday.
