Measures taken to stop illegal parking under ramps of Vidyasagar Setu

Kolkata: The Howrah Police has taken steps to check illegal parking of vehicles under the flyovers in and around the state Secretariat, Nabanna.

It may be mentioned that parking of vehicles under ramps of Vidyasagar Setu has been going on for the past many years. Despite earmarked spaces to park vehicles in and around the state Secretariat, drivers of a large number of four and two wheelers park their vehicles illegally.

Since Saturday morning, the police posted at the area were found asking drivers and owners of vehicles not to park the same at the open spaces under the ramps of Vidyasagar Setu near the state Secretariat. Again in the evening, a few policemen from Howrah Police Commissionerate were found creating awareness using the public addressing system.

The cops were found announcing that parking of vehicles under the flyovers is prohibited and legal steps would be taken if anyone is found doing so illegally.

It may be mentioned that there is a multi-storeyed parking lot just opposite Nabanna where most of the vehicles get parked and there are also earmarked parking spaces for people who come for various work at the state Secretariat.

There are also earmarked parking lots for motorbikes and bicycles as well.

The policemen posted in the area will be maintaining a vigil to check illegal parking in and around the state Secretariat. According to a police officer, it is also important to check illegal parking from security perspective as well. Tanmay Ray Chowdhury, Commissioner of Howrah City Police, said: "The step has been taken to check illegal parking."
