Kolkata: A man was found murdered on Tuesday night at his flat in Karaya.

He was found lying in a pool of blood by a local resident.

According to sources, on Tuesday, around 8 pm, a person called up Karaya police station and informed that a man has been found murdered.

Police found a man, identified as Md Abdul Rafique , who was about 60 years, was lying in a pool of blood. During preliminary investigation, the police found a stab injury mark on the his neck.

After sending the body for autopsy, the police started a murder case. During frisking of his flat, the police found a screw driver which was used to open a drawer where approximately Rs 7 lakh and some gold jewellery were kept. However, the unknown accused person or persons did not even touched any of the ornaments or the cash. Investigating officials also came to know that Rafique was one of the owners of a 7 cottah land in Karaya area. They jointly handed the plot over to a promoter where five high-rise buildings will be constructed.

Recently, he had got Rs 26 lakh from the promoter out of which 21 lakh was deposited in his bank account.

On Tuesday, his wife Jahida Salim, aged around 40 years, had been to her mother's house in Bright Street. She has reportedly interacted with Rafique over the phone around 6 pm. It is suspected that the murder took place between 6 pm and 7:15 pm. As no valuables were not missing, the police suspect that the motive behind the murder could be revenge.

However, the police are also suspecting his wife could be involved in the murder as after Rafique's death, she would be owner of his property. Sources say the police questioned Salim and found some ambiguities in her statement.
