Kolkata: for the first time in the history of Metro Railway in Kolkata, a person was fined Rs 1,000 for obstructing passenger movement by sitting on the staircase of the platform at M G Road Metro station on Thursday.
According to Metro Railway, a passenger on Thursday afternoon was found sitting on the staircase at M G Road Metro station. At that moment, two rakes in had arrived in both the Up and Down lines. As passengers from both the rakes were in a hurry, a huge rush occurred on the staircase.
Metro authorities claimed that after some passengers complained about the man sitting on the staircase, a few Metro staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel went there and asked the passenger, identified as S Kishor of Jharkhand, to move.
It has been alleged that despite repeated requests, he did not move and on the contrary, used abusive language towards the Metro employees and RPF personnel.
Immediately, he was taken to the station master's room and was fined Rs 1,000 for misbehaving with government employees under section 146 of the Railways Act. However, the passenger claimed that he did not misbehave with the employees and that he has been fined illegally.
On the other hand, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) officially started investigation on Thursday regarding the death of Sajal Kanjilal.
Apart from the persons on duty at Park Street Metro station, personnel from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), which had manufactured the 'medha' rakes, will also be called for questioning.
