Kolkata: A 35-year-old man from Hooghly attempted suicide after killing his wife by slitting her throat.
The incident has created sensation at Haraditya village of Arambag in Hooghly on Monday morning.
The husband identified Sanatan Hembram (35) has been fighting for life at Arambag Sub-divisional Hospital.
According to the district police, Hembram killed his wife, Sakulmani Hembram (35), whose body was found with her throat slit at their residence in Arambag. The husband was also found in a critical condition. After carrying out the murder of his wife, the accused attempted suicide by slitting his own throat.
The locals told police the couple got married seven years ago. They used to fight with each other over some family related issues. The quarrel might have led to the murder of the wife, suspect police.
A domestic help, who went to their house, found the couple was lying in a pool of blood.
She informed the locals about the matter. They in turn called up the police station.
Senior police officers from the district reached the spot and sent the couple to Arambag Sub-divisional Hospital where the wife was declared brought dead, while the husband was admitted. According to hospital sources, the husband's health condition is critical.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that it was not a pre-planned murder. The accused husband might have killed his wife following a heated altercation. After committing the crime, he tried to kill himself. The investigating officers collected samples from the room. Police are interrogating the family members of the couple.
