Kolkata: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday ushered in some significant changes in the party organisation, by removing Sovan Chatterjee from the post of president of South 24-Parganas and at the same time, assigning additional responsibility to Suvendu Adhikari.

MP Subhasish Chakraborty was appointed as the new president of South 24-Parganas district. Sovan Chatterjee was made the observer of the district, along with Firhad Hakim, who has been already acting as the observer. The two observers will be assisted by Abhishek Banerjee, the national president of Trinamool Youth Congress and party MP from Diamond Harbour.

The decision was announced by Banerjee after the extended core committee meeting of the party at Trinamool Bhavan.

Suvendu Adhikari was given the additional charge of the observer of Nadia district, along with Partha Chatterjee who is already the current observer. "Suvendu (Adhikari) will be in charge of Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat," Banerjee said.

Adhikari, who is also in charge of Jhargram, was given the responsibility to assist Subrata Bakshi, who is in charge of West Midnapore district. Abhishek Banerjee will be assisting Bakshi for party organisation in Cooch Behar, while in South Dinajpur, Bakshi will be assisted by Firhad Hakim.

Sources said the party supremo lauded the efforts of Jyotipriya Mallick and Anubrata Mondal for keeping the party organisation strong at North 24-Parganas and Birbhum respectively. Mallick is the party president of North 24-Parganas while Mondal is the president of Birbhum.

"We have formed a publicity campaign committee for our mega Opposition show at the Brigade Parade Grounds on January 19 next year. All parties who are anti-BJP will be invited to the gathering. Suvendu Adhikari will be the convener, while Abhishek (Banerjee) will be the joint convener," Banerjee said.

Another committee of senior leaders has also been formed for garnering Opposition support for the Brigade rally.
