Kolkata: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will meet the party functionaries upto the block level on Tuesday to discuss the blueprint to be followed during the civic election to be held in 2020.
Senior party leaders including secretary general Partha Chatterjee, state president Subrata Bakshi, Trinamool Youth Congress president Abhishek Banerjee will be present at the meeting. In addition to this, 400 block presidents and
127 presidents of the municipal areas will also be in attendance. Election strategist Prashant Kishor is likely to be present at the meeting which will be held at the Trinamool Bhawan.
In 2020, elections in 107 municipalities and two municipal corporations, namely Kolkata and Bidhannagar are scheduled to be held. The Mayors of both Kolkata and Bidhannagar Municipal Corporations, namely, Sovan Chatterjee and Sabyasachi Dutta have joined the BJP.
"Didi ke Bolo" has helped the Trinamool Congress to regain the ground which the party had suffered during the Lok Sabha elections. BJP has bagged 18 seats. The party has failed to get a single seat in North Bengal and Jangalmahal.
It has been learnt that the party will prepare a list containing the names of five residents per ward in case of Kolkata and per road in case of the blocks. Later, the names may be raised to 20 per ward and block. The list will contain the names of the persons along with their residential addresses and telephone numbers. The ward and block presidents will be asked to give names of the persons within 10 days.
The party will get in touch with the local residents to know about the performance of the councillors and their connect. Also, the party will get information about the image of the local councillor from the people. The block presidents will be asked to give names of three party workers per booth. There are 77,000 odd booths in Bengal. Thus, the party will get a pool of 2.31 lakh party workers in the booth level throughout the state.
It may be mentioned that in the past meetings of the party, Mamata Banerjee had asked all the leaders up to the block level to build intense communication with the people at the grassroot. She had also advised the party workers not to get disheartened as despite the hype of BJP during the Lok Sabha election, the party had increased its vote share by 4 percent.
In Kolkata, there are 60-65 booths per ward which may go up to 80 to 85 where as in the rural belt, there are 200-250 booths per block.
Senior party leaders felt that the exercise will strengthen the party's organisational strength at the booth level before the civic election and the Assembly election in 2021.
