Kolkata: A male domestic help has been admitted to Diamond Harbour Super-specialty Hospital after he was allegedly tortured by the owners of the house where he work.
The incident took place in Thakurpukur. The family members of the victim youth lodged a police complaint against the couple who in turn have registered a counter complaint of theft against the victim. The victim, Ganesh Mondal, who had been working as a domestic help at the house of the couple on Narayn Roy Road alleged that he had been beaten up by the accused on a number occasions. He was admitted to hospital a couple of days ago.
According to a senior official of the hospital, the victim had several injuries on his body when he was brought to hospital. The victim's family members told police that Mondal had received serious injuries on his ear and teeth in the attack. It was alleged that he was hit on his ear as he had been late in joining his duty on the day of incident.
Mondal's family members told police that some of his documents including voter's card had been snatched away. Police have started a probe. They also recorded the statements of the victim youth. Mondal told police that few days ago the accused threw boiling water on him and he received serious burn injuries.
The accused couple — Souvik Sarkar and Rinky Sarkar on the other hand lodged a counter-complaint stating that Mondal had stolen valuables and some cash from their house.
The woman said Mondal had allegedly tried to abuse her. The victim, however, told police that he took some money from the house owners for the treatment of his father and he had never been involved in any incident of stealing. Police have started a detailed probe in this regard and are interrogating the couple.
