One held from Jiaganj for circulating fake notes

One person was arrested from Jiaganj in Murshidabad on Tuesday morning on charges of circulating counterfeit Indian currency.

Police said around 25 fake currencies notes of Rs 2,000 denomination were seized from the accused. A police officer said that they had received information that a youth was going to come to Jiaganj in order to hand over the counterfeit notes to another person who resides in the adjacent town of Azimganj.
Acting on a tip-off, the policemen in plain clothes conducted a raid. The youth attempted to flee but the policemen chased him for around 500 metre and arrested him.
The police have questioned him to know that to whom he was going to give the counterfeit notes. At the same time the police also wanted to know from whom he had received the fake currencies.
The officer said that they suspect that the accused has cross-border links.
It may be mentioned that the police have taken several steps to check the circulation of fake currencies. As a result vigilance has also being increased.
It may be mentioned that Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a meeting in Kolkata recently in which circulation of fake currency was one of the important points of discussion.
