Actor Bikram Chatterjee who was arrested by police in connection with the death of model Sonika Chouhan is learnt to have changed his statements thrice during the police interrogation so far.
The investigating officer has been conducting a marathon interrogation as there were some discrepancies in his statement. According to a senior police officer, the accused actor has taken a U-turn from his earlier statement. Bikram is currently in police custody.
Sources said that in the interrogation, police wanted to know from Bikram where he had been on the night before the accident took place. Police also asked where he had gone with Sonika after leaving a five star hotel on the day of the accident. The accused actor might be trying to confuse the investigating officer by contradicting his statements, sources said.
It has been learnt that the actor is wearing clothes that have been provided to him from the police station. A police personnel has been posted outside the room at Tollygunge police station where the actor has been kept since his arrest. Bikram was arrested at around 12.15 am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday from near Acropolis Mall.
Soon after the accident, a section of models and actors who were close to Sonika had demanded Bikram's arrest. Forensic tests revealed that the car in which Bikram and Sonika were travelling was running at a speed of at around 100 km per hour. Bikram initially told the media that he was not in an inebriated state at the time of the accident. But later told the police that he had consumed alcohol but he was absolutely normal when his car met with the accident. Some common friends of Bikram and Sonika told the police he had taken alcohol. Their friends also gave the cops some details in connection with the incident.
