North 24 parganas district administration on Saturday stopped the three-member BJP central team from visiting the trouble-torn areas of Basirhat sub-division as "that might affect restoration of normalcy in the area." The team of three MPs comprising O P Mathur, national vice-president of the party, Meenakshi Lekhi, and Satyapal Singh along with state leaders were stopped near Michael Nagar on their way to Basirhat. Senior police officers who were present there told the team that as prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC was in force, they cannot visit the trouble-torn area. It may be recalled that a team led by BJP MP Roopa Ganguly was also stopped on Friday when she tried to go to the area.
At a press conference Nabanna, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said as life was coming back to normalcy, even the Trinamool leaders had not been sent to the area. "Let peace be restored as it is not the right time to visit the places," she maintained.
