A minor girl, who was abducted recently, was rescued by the police on Sunday night from Hili in South Dinajpur district.

A special team from district police rescued the girl from Hili with the help of local residents.

The parents of the victim girl alleged, local criminals abducted their daughter from a fair.

"They made her unconscious using a chemical spray," the parents further said.

The police learnt that the girl initially fled with an unidentified man. But later she realised that she would be sold to another person.

The police officer learnt that the girl was locked up in a room at Hili. Later, the officers rescued her from there.

The girl told her address to the police officer. The officer took her to the police station and then  her parents were called up for identification.

"The accused person will be arrested soon. Our officers have tracked his cell phone tower and gone there to capture the culprit," said an investigator.

In another case, the Alipurduar police are conducting raids to arrest a man who had allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl at Majherbari in Alipurduar on Sunday.

Police said that the girl, who had come to see the Rathayatra at her maternal uncle's place, was missing from Sunday evening but later she was rescued from a roadside.

Police said that the girl was extremely traumatised and could not even talk to the police about the incident.

"Our sources have confirmed that the accused person is an outsider. We suspect that he has fled from the area," said a police officer.
