A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws' at Satjelia in South 24 Paragans on Saturday. The relatives of the deceased lodged an FIR with the local police station against her husband and in-laws and police promptly arrested her husband Arun Mondal. The in-laws' were detained for interrogation.
Police said that Kakuli Mondal, a Satjelia resident was married to Arun in 2008. Despite knowing that the girl was not from an affluent family, Arun had taken Rs 2 lakh and other household items as dowry. After six months of their marriage, Kakuli's husband and her in-laws started forcing her to bring more money from her parents. The situation turned worse for her when she refused to approach her parents for money. Her husband, who was an alcoholic, used to beat her up when she was pregnant. As a result she gave birth to a premature baby. A few months after the birth of their children, the victim's husband had once again asked for money. But it was not possible for Kakuli's parents to give away money again.
