Kolkata Police on Friday wrote to Ruby General Hospital seeking explanation for sending small amount of blood sample of actor Bikram Chatterjee to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for necessary tests.
The state Forensic Science Laboratory is presently investigating the case in which the accused actor was allegedly drunk while driving the car in high speed and met a severe accident in South Kolkata in which his friend, model Sonika Chauhan was killed and he also received injuries.
The Forensic Science Laboratory recently informed the police that the plastic vial contained approximately 0.5 ml straw colour liquid said to be serum of Bikram Chatterjee. The sample, said to be the serum of Bikram Chatterjee, was received in this laboratory in such a small quantity that the nothing could not be detected by the available method of chemical analysis.
Kolkata Police sources said that the authority of the private hospital was asked to explain the reason that why they had sent lesser blood samples which reportedly affected the test for ascertaining whether the actor was intoxicated or not during the time of the accident in April 29.
Senior Scientific Officer (Toxicology) Subha Hazra recently sent a report to Kolkata Police in which it was said that the presence of toxic substances were not found due to inadequate blood sample of the accused. A source said that Tollygunge police station submitted Bikram's blood sample on May 8. But the gas chromatography process was not applied in the test, because it needed at least 10 ml serum.
"It was not possible for us to apply gas chromatography process in 0.5 ml sample. It was also important to apply this process to ascertain whether the accused was intoxicated or not," a scientist at the state Forensic Science Laboratory said. After getting feedback from the state Forensic Science Laboratory, the investigators in this case asked the hospital authority to know the reason that why they had taken such a small quantity of blood sample for the test.
It may be mentioned that the accused actor was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the car accident in which model Sonika Chauhan was killed.
The police had initiated a case on charges of causing death by negligence under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and rash driving (279 IPC). Sonika's maternal uncle had lodged a complaint with Tollygunge police station alleging that Bikram was in an inebriated state when he was driving the car which caused the accident.
