Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday urged Hooghly district administration to take steps to provide better services in state run hospitals.

She was attending the administrative review meeting of Hooghly district at Tarakeshwar on Thursday afternoon.

Banerjee proposed to take over Rishra Seva Samity, a private health centre. The employees of the health centre have not been receiving their salaries for the past seven months and one of the employees had committed suicide.
Banerjee said that if the trust looking after the centre had ceased to function, steps should be taken to find out if the state government could take over the centre. The chairman of Rishra municipality said that under the CPI(M) regime, the former chairman of the municipality had been a member of the trust.

Banerjee said that steps should be taken to ensure that state run hospitals and health centres were functioning well and that people were getting proper service. "Not only the private nursing homes but we too should run our institutions well and any lapses on the part of government hospitals will not be tolerated," she maintained.
