Woman, minors beaten up by eve-teaser in Midnapore, no arrest yet

A woman was beaten up allegedly by a man on Thursday for protesting against eve-teasing. She received serious injuries and had to be admitted to a hospital. Two minor girls were also injured after being beaten up by the same accused but the girls were treated and discharged from the hospital.

The incident took place at East Midnapore's Garsapat under the jurisdiction of Moyna Police Station. Police learnt that the woman and those two girls were followed by the eve-teaser. He reportedly made some derogatory comments about the minor girls which made the woman annoyed.

"She turned back and told the man to leave the spot. The man started to beat her after initial altercation. Then he beat up the minor girls when they tried to save the woman," said a police officer.

"The man managed to escape from the spot before local residents came there to rescue the woman and the two girls," the officer added.

Police identified the accused as Aaref Khan (30) but he is not known to the local residents. 

"He probably came from some other place and saw that the woman and the two girls. He attacked the woman because she protested against the derogatory comments," the officer added.

The woman lodged an FIR against the man on Thursday night. "We have started investigation of the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim. The accused will be arrested soon," the officer further said.

A police team inspected the spot and interrogated some local residents in connection with the case.
