An unclaimed bag found at Howrah station in the Memari-Howrah local on Wednesday morning caused anxiety among passengers waiting for the train.

The bomb disposal squad was rushed in to examine the bag who instructed the passengers to vacate the place immediately.

The squad initially moved the bag to an isolated platform for the disposal of the suspected explosive but found no explosive inside, just a bunch of ropes.

"Somebody probably lost his bag on the train," said an RPF officer.

"It was office time and the train was just about to move from the platform. Some passengers spotted the bag lying unclaimed inside the coach. They initially tried to find the owner of the bag but nobody claimed it. Then they informed the matter to the RPF," said an eyewitness.

"The officers of RPF and GRP called in the bomb disposal squad and cordoned off the area outside the train compartment. The squad reached the spot and vacated the area completely before moving the bag to a deserted place. However, no explosive was found," he added.

The GRP, however, started an investigation to find the owner of the bag. "The owner of the bag has to be found out," said a GRP officer.
