Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has chalked out a comprehensive plan to ease out traffic congestion along Biswa Bangla Sarani near Eco Park.
The stretch on the road near Prakriti Tirtha becomes a nightmare for the drivers and passengers on important days like Christmas Day, New Year's Day etc when the turnout of visitors cross a lakh. On December 25, 2016 and January 1, 2017, there were massive traffic snarls in front of Eco Park. Cars stood bumper to bumper for more than an hour. Many airport-bound passengers who take Biswa Bangla Sarani to reach airport faster had missed their flights.
After the incidents, many residents of New Town and some of those who had been caught up in the jam requested Debashis Sen, chairman of HIDCO, to take steps to ensure smooth flow of traffic on important occasions. A high-level meeting was held in HIDCO in January this year to find out an alternative route that would be used by Chinar Park-bound traffic avoiding Eco Park.
Construction of a new road has been taken up and work is being done on a war footing. Once the road is constructed, residents of Action Area II will be able to come to Action Area III without having travelled through Narkelbagan junction.
Vehicles from Ecospace, DLF2, TCS, Unitech as well as Amity University and Aliah University will be able to reach airport at a much faster pace.
At the eastern end of the Financial Hub, in front of Aliah University, there is a broad major arterial road that was to serve a parallel route to connect Akankhya More to Tata Medical More. Because of a long-drawn legal battle relating to a piece of land at Kadampukur, a 500 m stretch of road could not be built. After a series of meetings, the legal battle is now over and construction of the road to ease out traffic on Biswa Bangla Sarani is in full swing. The road is likely to be completed within a month.
