Day-long programme to commemorate Tagore's 156th birth anniversary at Rabindra Tirtha today

 Rabindra Tirtha will organise a day-long programme to celebrate Tagore's 156th birth anniversary on Tuesday.

The programme titled "Hey Chiranutan", divided into two sessions, morning and evening, will feature solo Rabindrasangeet and recitation by well-known singers like Ashis Bhattacharya, Abhiroop Guhathakurata, Chitralekha Chowdhury, Enakshi Chattopadhyay, Dipak Rudra, Suman Panthi, Swapan Som and Aloke Roy Chowdhury who will take part in the morning session that starts from 7 am.  Well-known elocutionists including Pranati Thakur, Ratna Mitra, Urmila Sen and Barnali Sarkar among others will take part in the morning session too.

 The evening session will start from 5 pm.

Rabindra Tirtha  will organise a fortnight-long programme on Rabindranath  from May  13 to 28 May. The programme will start at 5.30 pm everyday during the cultural fortnight. Renowned Rabindrasangeet exponents will take part in the 15-day long programme. There will be recitations, dance dramas and choruses by well-known cultural groups.

Rabindra Tirtha, which stands on a 4.89 acre land, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on August 7, 2012 to carry out research on Tagore and  spread his philosophy and message among the younger generation. There is an auditorium, art gallery, exhibition halls, mini cinema hall, music room, cottages and dormitory for accommodation of researchers. Cultural functions are regularly held in Rabindra Tirtha.

New Town is coming up as a major cultural hub. Because of distance, many people from North 24 Parganas and even Salt Lake  could not visit Rabindra Sadan complex which used to be the city's only cultural hub. After Rabindra Tirtha and Nazrul Tirtha were developed as the new cultural hubs, apart from the residents of New Town, people from Salt Lake  and its neighbourhood regularly come here to watch movies and various cultural programmes. A convention centre is coming up in New Town too where the auditorium will be accommodate 3,000 people.
