Update: 2017-05-03 18:00 GMT
A BJP leader allegedly beat up employees of a bar for asking him to pay the bill after having food. The incident took place at Haldia in East Midnapore on Tuesday night.

Police said that the bar authorities have lodged a complaint with Durgachawk police station against the block president of BJP in Haldia, Anupam Maity and his associates. Police didn't find Maity in the area after the incident. A police officer said that Maity and some of his friends went to the bar housed in a hotel on Tuesday night. They had spent a few hours and had food in the bar. Some of them took alcohol.
The situation turned worse when they were asked to make payment. It was alleged that the BJP leader and his associates attacked the employees of the bar when they were asked to give money for having food and alcohol in the bar.

They had also attempted to damage properties in the bar. But they couldn't as other employees of the bar intervened and settled the matter. Maity left the place for the time being. But he returned after around half-an-hour with some of his friends and allegedly beat up the manager of the bar Nilkanta Guchait. They continued beating him up till he fell on the ground.

The bar authorities lodged a complaint against Maity and his associates on Tuesday night itself. The police initiated a probe in this connection and collected footages of surveillance cameras installed in the bar. The police have taken statements of the employees who were allegedly beaten up and also spoke to people who claimed to be the eyewitnesses of the incident.

According to the local BJP leaders, the matter has been informed to senior leaders. It would also be looked into whether the allegations are genuine and accordingly, necessary steps would be taken.
