KMC to introduce e-tracking system to keep tabs on files

Update: 2019-03-04 18:10 GMT

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will soon be implementing an electronic system to keep tabs on the exact location of files that are moving from one department to another.

Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh said a proposal had been put forth by Mayor Firhad Hakim in one of the recent meetings and the file tracking system will be implemented soon.

"The tender for the proposal will be floated soon and we are in conversation with various organisations, who will help us in implementing the system. It will take us some time to convert the whole system into the digital form as the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has at least 35,000 employees. So, we have a number of files in different departments of the corporation," Ghosh said.

In the file tracking system, each file of the KMC will be allotted a unique number and when that particular number will be inserted in the computer system, detailed information about the file will be available to the KMC officials and employees.

Meanwhile, a senior official of KMC said a lot of time was wasted while looking for files as they are always transferred from one department to another. Sometimes, the files also get lost in the due process and so if the system is implemented, it will help us to save a lot of time and it will also speed up the whole process. It will help us to find out where the file is getting held up, he said.

He said: "Even during the tenure of the last government, there had been discussions about the implementation of the electronic file tracking method but at the end, it was not launched. So let's see if the system is implemented this time."
