Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will come up with guidelines for auditoriums in the added areas of the city.
"There are a number of halls or auditoriums in the added areas of the city where the rules and regulations of KMC have not been properly laid down. I will ask the Boroughs to come up with a specific proposal in this regard so that we can come up with such guidelines. There are rules and regulations for the auditoriums and it may be similar for these halls too," Member Mayor-in-Council (Parks & Gardens) Debasish Kumar said in the monthly meeting of KMC on Thursday.
Kumar was responding to a proposal from Left councillor Chayan Bhattacharjee who had pointed out that there are no proper KMC guidelines in regard to Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy auditorium in his ward 111.
"Permission is taken from KMC and some functions at the local level are held in the auditorium. Framing of guidelines can bring better revenue for the civic body," Bhattacharjee said.
Kumar appreciated the proposal from Mukherjee and maintained that the state government always encourages cultural activities. He cautioned the councillors to ensure that such activities cater to proper taste.
He also welcomed the proposal for having a green room and a toilet in the auditorium for the benefit of the organisers and the artistes. It may be mentioned that KMC earns a good revenue from its community halls and auditoriums in the city.
