Kolkata: In a bid to usher in more transparency in the examination process, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Board, for the first time this year, is introducing a unique system in which the sealed question paper packet will be opened by the examinee.
"In the previous system, it was the invigilator who would hand over the question and answer booklets to the students. However, from this year, the sealed packet will be handed over directly to the examinees by the invigilators. There will be separate sealed packets for every student. The students will first open a polythene packet used for wrapping the booklet and then open another seal to access the question and answer booklets," a senior official of the JEE board said.
After the examination, the booklets will again be handed over to the invigilator in similar sealed form.
The engineering examination of the JEE Board is scheduled on April 22 and more than 1.5 lakh students are slated to appear this year.
The invigilators will, however, guide the students in opening the packet if they face any difficulty in doing so.
The Board is also introducing a slew of other stringent measures for transparency. "Our special observers will be armed with radio frequency detectors, which will work up to a range of 500 metres. If any examinee is using any electronic gadget like mobile or digital watch, which are banned inside the hall, an automatic signal will pass on to the observer," the official added. Around 20 to 25 examinees will be allowed to sit in a single hall and the distance between two candidates will be at least three feet.
