Kolkata: Ten stranded migrant labourers from Bengal were provided with necessary support within an hour after the state government and Howrah City Police received information that they are in deep trouble and without food.

On Saturday morning, police received information that 10 workers from Howrah were stuck at Ranchi. They went there to work in an aluminium fabrication industry.

The workers are from different parts of rural Howrah including Bauria, Bagnan and Uluberia. One of them is from Goghat in Hooghly. All of them work in the same factory and at present, they were staying together at Dhurwa Smart City at Ranchi.

They failed to return to Bengal as the lockdown was imposed. For certain reason, they had not received any support from the government earlier. But with the intervention of the state government and Howrah City Police, all the 100 workers were attended by the local administration there. On an immediate basis, Rs 500 was given to each of them to get some

food and assurance have been given of providing ration on Sunday.

On Saturday morning, a local resident of Amta in Howrah informed the district's city police about the ten workers and provided their contact numbers as well. Without wasting any time, the matter was informed to the control room at Nabanna. The Howrah City Police also continued trying to establish contact with the workers at their own level.

With all efforts given by the officers both at the state secretariat and in the district level, finally, it was possible to pass the information to the administration at Ranchi. Within an hour after the entire operation had begun, a nodal officer of Jharkhand government AK Chowdhury rushed to Dhurwa Smart City where the workers were stuck and provided them with all support. Their family members have been informed that they were keeping well in Jharkhand.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to her counterparts of 18 states to ensure safety, security and food to migrant labourers from Bengal who are stranded in different parts of the country. She also introduced a scheme called Sneherparash to send financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to the stranded migrant labourers and families.

In Bengal, too, the state government is extending all necessary support to 2 lakh migrant labourers from other states who are stranded in Bengal.
