Kolkata: The state government has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the Islampur incident that had led to the death of two students.

It may be recalled that two students - Rajesh Sarkar and Tapas Barman - had died after receiving bullet injuries during a clash that broke out at Daribhit High School.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had condemned the incident. She had stated that people were brought into the state from outside to create trouble and it claimed the lives of two bright students of the state.

It may be mentioned that while speaking to the media in Milan on Wednesday, Banerjee had attacked BJP for creating trouble in the state.

Following the direction of Home Secretary Atri Bhattacharya, the case was handed over to CID from the district police, on Thursday. The district police had been investigating the incident, but no one has been arrested yet in connection with the death of the two students.

According to the top brass of the state CID, the work related to the investigation has already started. It has been learnt that a special team comprising CID officers has been formed to probe into the incident and the team will be leaving for Islampur soon.

The CID officers will be speaking to the family members of the victims and they would also note a description of the entire incident from the villagers, who had witnessed the same.

It may be mentioned that a section of the local people had claimed that the police had opened fire, which led to the death of the two students. However, the top brass of the district police had maintained that the police had not opened fire.

The CID officers will also be visiting the spot where the incident took place. It has been learnt that the investigating officers will also probe the matter related to the presence of outsiders at Daribhit School on the day the incident took place and they would also look into the possible routes through which one could have easily escaped out of the state after committing a crime.

The CID officers are now taking all necessary steps to ascertain the people who were actually involved in the incident. The investigating officers will also speak to the policemen who reached first at the spot on the day of the incident, soon after getting the information.
