Governor lauds Mamata's efforts to keep Corona from spreading

Kolkata: Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday lauded the efforts of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

"Her efforts are commendable. Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken painstaking efforts in larger public interest and the same is to be greatly appreciated. She is in overdrive and I urge the people to heed her suggestions," said Dhankhar, during a press conference at Raj Bhavan.

He reiterated that West Bengal, on account of its large population and heavy density in several areas, poses a different kind of challenge.

"This is an occasion for everyone in the state to act in synergy and togetherness, as indicated by the hounorable Chief Minister," Dhankhar pointed out.

Calling for 'resolve and restraint' to fight Coronavirus, the Governor said that at 5 pm on March 22, citizens must, as suggested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stand at the doors, balconies and windows and give a 5-minute standing ovation and salute to the

people working in the health sector and other essential services.

"I particularly appeal to the people through media that we must work to make Janata Curfew on March 22 a significant action to contain Coronavirus," he explained.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Thursday urged the private hospitals to work with the state government to ensure that no one in the state gets deprived of necessary treatment. In the same breath, she had said that it is not the time to do business.

She had urged the private establishments to take necessary steps when a patient with symptoms of the disease turns up at their hospital and added that the state government is ready to bear the cost for the same.

She also announced that the Rs 5 lakh insurance will also be extended to the employees of private healthcare units, who will be working to fight against the disease.

Banerjee had also distributed responsibilities among a set of IAS officers to supervise the ongoing work to avoid spread of the disease at different districts.
