Gold, diamonds worth Rs 6 crore seized

BALURGHAT: In a major breakthrough, police seized a huge quantity of gold and diamond worth Rs 6 crore looted from a jewellery shop in Gurgaon recently, South Dinajpur police chief Nagendra Nath Tripathi said at a press conference on Sunday night.

Police also arrested three persons identified as Safiqul Islam (27), Jafor Hussein (28) and Sultan Mian (25) from Malda rail station area and Hili for their alleged involvement in committing the operation.

They hail from Hili and Banshihari's Aligara and Haldi. A case of burglary from a jewellery shop in Haryana's Gurgaon was reported on

December 9. While investigating the case and through sketches of prime accused as detected from the CCTV footages, police on December 12 became sure that three employees of the shop from Bengal's South Dinajpur were behind the crime. Apart from the CCTV footages, mobile tracking system also helped police to solve the case.

Haryana police on Saturday arrested two persons on Saturday night from Malda while the other from Hili. Interrogating the trio, police later seized gold around 16 kg and some diamonds worth approximately Rs 6 crore from Banshihari's Haripur. Police said Safiqul concealed the valuables at his father-in-laws'

house in Haripur. Investigation revealed that Sultan Mian had been working as a security guard at the shop. They left the place thinking police would never be able

to trace them. While producing them before Gangarampur sub-divisional court on Sunday, the judge directed to hand them over to Haryana police on transit-remand.
