Footpath dweller killed after being hit by on-duty fire tender near Strand Road
Kolkata: A footpath dweller was killed after a fire tender ran him over while on the way to attend a fire call on M G Road near Strand Road crossing. The incident took place on Tuesday morning. On the other hand, four fire incidents were reported across the city
According to the locals, at around 10 am on Tuesday traders on Nalini Seth Road at Posta saw smoke coming out of a closed jewellery shop. Fire brigade and police were immediately informed. Three fire tenders doused the fire after two hours. While attending the call one of the fire tenders somehow hit a footpath dweller identified as Gouri Das (35) near Strand Road.
Locals immediately rushed Das to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
In another incident, fire broke out at a meter box on the ground floor of a seven-storey building. Around 11:30 am, some employees of a office situated in the building detected a burning smell. Meanwhile, a few of them went down to check and saw a portion of the ground floor was covered with smoke. The building was evacuated and fire brigade was informed. Two fire tenders doused the fire by 12 pm. Fire officials suspect that the fire might have occurred due to electrical disorder.
Two more fire incidents were reported on Tuesday. A fire broke out at a office on H L Sarkar Road in Bansdroni around 12 pm. Two fire tenders doused the flames within 12:30 pm. On the other hand, a fire broke out at a chemical factory situated on the ground floor of a two -storey building in Chitpore around 1:20 pm. Three fire tenders controlled the fire by 1:50 pm. No causality was reported.
