Kolkata: Five persons were shot after a clash broke out between two groups at Hasnabad in North 24-Parganas on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, since the past few days
West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) has been installing lamp posts at Hargachapul in Hasnabad.
On Tuesday at around 11 am, when WBSEDCL staff were about to install a lamp post on a land, the owner of another land opposite to
the spot demanded that the post should be installed on his land.
With the issue, an altercation broke out between the two land owners. Meanwhile, both the land owners called several people in their support and a scuffle broke out between the groups. Sensing danger, WBSEDCL staff left the spot. Amidst the scuffle, some unknown persons started firing bullets at each other.
As soon as the firing took place, locals ran for their lives. After a few moments, five persons were seen lying on the ground with bullet injuries. After receiving the information, a police team arrived at the spot to control the situation.
When the agitated mob started pelting stones at police, Rapid Action Force (RAF) was called in. After almost an hour, police brought the situation under control.
The five injured persons were rushed to Taki Hospital, where they are still undergoing treatment. No one has been arrested yet. Police have started a probe.
