Fire breaks out at Tangra warehouse, none injured

Kolkata: Fire broke out at three places throughout the city on Monday. None was injured in these incidents.

On Monday evening at around 5:23 pm, a fire broke out at a warehouse on D C Dey Road under Tangra Police Station area.

Locals noticed smoke billowing out of the warehouse and informed the owner. After some time, flames of fire was noticed. Immediately, police and fire brigade were informed. Three fire tenders were pressed into action.

While dousing the flames, officials noticed that the intensity of the fire was increasing. Sensing danger, seven more fire tenders were called on duty.

However, only six out of ten fire tenders helped in dousing the flames.

According to fire officials, there were inflammable materials like plastic and rubber for which the intensity of the fire had gone up. It is assumed that the warehouse may not have any fire fighting mechanism as per the norms.

The fire was controlled around 7 pm.

The cooling process went till midnight. While dousing the flames, the Disaster Management Group (DMG) of Kolkata Police also assisted the fire fighters.

Sources informed that the fire officials may visit the warehouse soon to check with the fire fighting system and to ascertain the cause of fire.

In another incident of fire, a fire broke out at around 5:30 am at a leather bag manufacturing workshop on the first floor of a four-storied building in Beniapukur. Two fire tenders were pressed into action. Around 6:15 am, the fire was controlled. It took almost two hours to completely extinguish the fire. None was trapped or hurt in this incident.

Another fire occurred at a residential building opposite the Puja Pandal entrance of Deshapriya Park. On Monday at around 2:30 pm, some pandal hoppers and on-duty police personnel noticed smoke coming out from an air conditioning machine. Immediately, fire brigade was informed. One fire tender doused the flames within a short period of time. According to the fire fighters, it might have occurred due to anelectrical disorder.
