Kolkata: A fire broke out at the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM) in Ballygunge on Friday morning. Two fire tenders were pressed into action and the fire was brought under control after approximately one hour.
According to sources, at around 11:30 am on Friday, some staff members of BITM noticed smoke coming out from the first floor. Before they could act, thick black smoke had spread all over the museum. Several people were visiting the museum at the time, who started screaming for help. Museum staff rushed to their aid and evacuated the museum safely. Within a short period of time, two fire tenders started dousing the fire.
No one was hurt in the incident. The extent of damage and cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
