Fire at Vivekananda College's library

Two separate incidents of fire took place at the library room of Thakurpukur Vivekananda College and in a bank at Sujapur in Malda.

A fire broke out at the library room of Thakurpukur Vivekananda College on Thursday morning. Some of the staff spotted smoke billowing out form the library room. They informed the matter to the fire brigade department, following which, three fire tenders were pressed into action. The firefighters brought the situation under control within an hour. Around six computers and some furniture were destroyed in the fire. 

According to the preliminary investigation, police and the fire brigade officials suspect that an electrical short circuit might have led to the incident. They are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. However, none was injured in the incident.

In another incident, a fire broke out a bank at Sujapur in Malda. On Thursday morning, some of the local residents found smoke was coming out of the bank which remained closed. The local people informed the matter to the fire brigade and one fire tender was pressed into action. It brought the situation under control in two hours.

When the fire brigade officials entered into the bank, they found various documents, furniture and computers gutted in the fire. After hearing about the incident, the senior bank officers rushed to the spot. Fire brigade officials said that currency notes were not damaged in the incident. The matter was communicated to the senior officials of the bank.

Local residents, however, alleged that they often see lights and fans on inside the locked branch office. This might have led to the incident, the local people blamed. The fire brigade and police have started an investigation in this regard. According to the preliminary investigation, they suspect an electrical short circuit might have caused the fire.
