Kolkata: The state government will recruit 642 medical technologists that will further improve the health service at state run hospitals at this critical time of Covid.
The decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The cabinet meeting on Wednesday was held at Nabanna Sabhaghar. This was the first cabinet meeting, since the Covid situated had prevailed, in which most ministers were present apart from a few.
Alapan Bandyopadhyay, the state Home Secretary, said: "The cabinet on Wednesday has decided to recruit 642 medical technologists."
As many as 485 posts of medical technologists have been created in 75 hospitals. At the same time the decision has been taken to fill up the posts of 157 medical technologists (critical care) at different hospitals.
According to the experts, the decision of the state government comes crucial at the time of Covid as it will help in
fighting the disease in a better way.
The state government has already created a mammoth health infrastructure that is helped in achieving the recovery rate of 85.60 percent.
It may be mentioned that medical technologists play a crucial role in carrying out Covid tests in the laboratories. It is also important as at present most laboratories are operating round-the-clock in three shifts. It resulted in more than 42,000 tests per day with it being undertaken in total 73 laboratories.
The cabinet has earlier also announced allowing recruitment of 500 house staff, 53 medical officers and 18 medical technicians through walk-in interviews in this emergency situation without going for the long-drawn recruitment process.
Such initiatives have helped in ensuring better health services to the people when admitted to hospitals and at the same time it helps in fast tracking of Covid patients that was considered to be one of the most crucial aspects to check the spread of the disease.
