Kolkata: Tension ran high at Asansol Superspecialty Hospital on Wednesday night after the death of a 71-year-old man whose family members staged a protest demonstration inside the hospital campus.
The agitation continued for nearly one hour till the senior hospital authorities assured to conduct a probe. It was learnt that one Robin Sen (71), a resident of Kalla area of Asansol, was taken to hospital three days ago with some age related ailments.
The family members of the victim alleged that they informed the hospital authorities about the deterioration of the victim but they did not pay any heed.
They also alleged that none of the doctors or nurses attended the patient after his condition deteriorated on Wednesday evening.
There are no adequate doctors at the hospital which affect the health services in the hospital, alleged the deceased's family members.
After a while, some staff informed the family members that the patient had died. This infuriated the family members and they staged a protest demonstration inside the campus.
They alleged negligence on part of the hospital authorities. They demanded an inquiry into the incident.
After being informed, police reached the spot to pacify the mob. The family members did not, however, listen to the policemen.
As the agitation went on, the medical superintendent of the hospital had to intervene and assure the family members that the matter would be looked into.
He also told the family members that action will be taken against those who would be found guilty.
The agitation was lifted by the family members on late Wednesday night.
