Kolkata: Family members of a youth, who died at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday night after meeting with a road accident in East Burdwan's Palsit, put up a roadblock outside the hospital campus accusing the authorities of negligence.
Apart from the deceased, two other youths also received injuries on Tuesday when a car got hit by a truck at Palsit. The family members said the victim was shifted to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital from Burdwan Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Soriful Ali (24). Ali and two of his friends are the residents of Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas and were returning from Burdwan.
It was alleged that all the three accident victims were kept on stretchers and were denied beds. The family members alleged that Pal had undergone tremendous pain while being on the stretcher. He finally succumbed to his injuries without getting proper treatment. This outraged his family members who put up a roadblock outside the hospital disrupting traffic movement in the area.
The situation was brought under control and the roadblock was finally lifted after the intervention of senior police officers. Two other injured victims were later given beds in the hospital. They have been undergoing treatment at the observation ward of the hospital.
In a separate incident, one Md Ashique (16), a resident of Syed Ali Lane, who sustained injuries at Millennium Park, died at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. He was taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital and later shifted to R G Kar.
The family members of the victim also staged a demonstration on the road protesting against the delay over his admission.
