Family members of accident victim put up body for organ donation

Kolkata: In a rare gesture of humanity, family members of an accident victim donated the body so that the organs can be used to give a new lease of life to someone else.

A 26-year-old youth, Trijit Ghosh, was killed after being hit by a private bus on Upen Banerjee Road at Parnasree in South Kolkata on Tuesday morning. He was riding a motorbike and the bus hit from behind after losing control. He received severe injuries all over his body.

The accident took place near a local club. Youth from the club and police took him to Vidyasagar State General Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body has been sent for an autopsy. The offending vehicles were seized. A pall of gloom descended when the news of Trijit's death reached his residence at Kalighat. But his family members took the decision to donate the body so that the organs can be used to give a new lease of life to someone else.

Doctors have examined the body and confirmed that his eyes and skin can be used. Hence, accordingly the process has started so that the eyes can be used by someone else.

According to senior police officers, the family members of the victim have set an example by attempting to give vision to a person by donating the eyes of the deceased youth.
