Eastern Railway has introduced 12 coach EMU, instead of eight coach MEMU coaches, after electrification of the double line in Krishnanagar Lalgola section.
The electrification saves passengers' time, while the passenger capacity of 12 coach EMU is almost twice than that of eight coach MEMU rake. It will serve passengers immensely at peak hours, where more passengers can ride comfortably.
At present three pairs of eight coach Ranaghat–Lalgola MEMU services (viz 63131/63132, 63135/63136, 63137/63138) have been replaced by 12 coach EMU rakes. Other services, including old passenger trains either from Ranaghat or Sealdah, will also be replaced by broad gauge EMU services in near future.
