ER GM instructed to take steps ensuring punctual running of trains

Kolkata: Piyush Goyal, union Railway minister has asked the General Manager of Eastern Railway to take steps in order to ensure punctual running of trains.

The meeting between Goyal and Harindra Rao, general manager Eastern Railway, took place in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Goyal expressed his concern over the late running of trains in Eastern Railway. In Howrah division, only 50% of the trains run on time, while in Sealdah division, it is around 90 percent. In Malda and Asansol divisions, around 70 percent to 75 percent trains run on time. The union has fixed November 1 as the deadline for punctual running of trains.

Late running of trains has become a regular feature in India and the ministry of Railways have left no stones unturned to ensure that the trains run on time.

There are often demonstration by passengers due to late running of trains. Trains services are often delayed due to blockade on the railway tracks on different issues which are not related with the Railways.

Not only local trains, long distance trains are delayed by several hours. As a result, the long distance trains leaving Howrah or Sealdah are either rescheduled or cancelled. It was learnt that steps will be taken to ensure that trains run on time.
