KOLKATA: The post-mortem report of engineering student Deep Barik, whose decomposed body was recovered from a pond behind the police quarters at Belgharia on January 5, has revealed that the youth was assaulted and then strangulated to death.
Deep's father has been constantly alleging that his son was murdered and as soon as the murder angle came to the fore with the post-mortem report, he urged the state government to order a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The report reveals several cut and bruise marks on his body indicating that he was assaulted. It may be mentioned that the Belgharia police station had already arrested one Sanjay Burman who called the youth on the fateful day for a picnic on December 31 night. Burman happens to be the son of a staff of Kolkata Police.
"A CID probe will bring out the motive behind the murder," Deep's father said. Police are also probing the role of a woman with whom Deep had spent reasonable amount of time on the fateful day at a park in Chandannagore.
A resident of Dakshineshwar, Deep had left for the police headquarters at Belgharia at around 7.30 pm at night.
It may be mentioned that the victim along with some others of the police quarters had picnic till late night on his last day and when he did not return home in the morning his family members went there and enquired about him. When his father spoke with Sanjay, he informed that Deep had complained of sickness and had left the place for home at around 12 at night.
A missing diary was lodged at Belgharia police station and a few days later his body was recovered from a pond at the backside of the police quarters.
